Damn Whitney

I’m sitting at my desk listening to Whitney Houston’s greatest hits. Songs like I Will Always Love You, The Greatest Love of All, All The Man I Need and more.

Whitney had talent. Serious talent.

That girl could sing her tail off. Not like some of the girls now who have record deals and have no business standing up in front of a microphone.

But what hurts me is that we will never hear Whitney’s crystalline voice again. I mean, even if she cleaned up her act, my girl’s voice is raw. The last time I heard her sing was at the BET 25th Anniversary show and I honestly wanted to cry. What a waste of talent – her voice had gotten richer with age and now it’s sad.

I surprised myself, ‘cause I know most of her songs and I was singing along in my cube. Whitney needs to get off the drug (
crack is wack, my tail, she’s on the pipe) and try to salvage what’s left of that incredible voice that made us sing over the years.

Whitney came out hard in the '80s, powered through the '90s and went straight downhill in the new millennium. Chupse.

So, I will continue to listen to Exhale (Shoop, Shoop), I Have Nothing and You Give Good Love 'cause I will be surprised if she ever comes back with anything worthwhile.

Damn Whitney, why does it hurt so bad?

she's "on the pipe"? isn't that the same thing as crack?

@Crescendo - thanks!
@Marlo - being 'on the pipe' and doing crack are the same thing. Remember that interview she did saying, 'crack is wack'? She's deluding herself, 'cause she's on the pipe... sucking it dry.

Not sure why someone who has/had everything would want to throw it away on 1)Bobby Brown and 2) drugs. Maybe one day she'll write a book to explain all the crazy.

I hope Whitney lives to tell her story. But based on the pictures I saw in the drug store she is totally addicted and it seems not willing to get her life back. Whitney needs serious prayer. She won't live long at this rate.

Cute blog!
Damn... Waiting to Exhale...Damn Whitney is right!
Here's something to ponder...if given a choice, would you rather have a hall of fame career (in your field of choice)...or a lifelong True Love...the kind where you finish each other's sentences...match each other's hucklebuck step for step while trying on glasses...help the other through a bout of constipation (crack pipe not included)? That's a tough one!

@jdid - for real. I've heard people say the voice will come back if she gets off the drugs, but I don't know.
@MizJJ - Bobby and Whitney are an unholy union. They brought each other down big time. The drugs, well, the drugs made a bad thing worse.
@Rose - Amen, sista! Whitney needs prayer and an intervention.
@sowisesista - thanks! I remember hearing Kelly Rowland (no, I don't usually quote members of DC, but...) talking about the same thing and she said she'd pick the career 'cause you can always find love. Career is great, but is true love so easily found that you can ignore it? Vice versa: is true love longer lasting than a great career w/ fame and fortune? I don't know.

Urban Sista - Bringing it to you live from Cali, and in the words of Whitney..."Ah hell to the naw!"
It is sad to see such a tremendous talent go down the tubes. I hate to see her go down like that but, life is about choices. Right? Her worse one was none other than, as he puts it, "The Kang Of R & B" Bobby Brown. If you lie with dogs, you get fleas. I'm out.

@solitaire - I just hope that she pulls it together. A lot of people have gone down that road and have comeback strong. Look at the Soul Hip Hop Queen, Ms. Mary J. Blige. The CD is sweet!
@ja - I hear you, girl. Life is about choices. If you choose to destroy your talent and run with lawless people, I hope you enjoy it.
@sowisesista - she ain't engaged anymore? For real? Guess she chose her career ;)
@sammi - I agree with you and sowisesista. What's the point of having it all, if you don't have anyone to share it with?
